Whilst working at Alpine Electronics of Australia I was lead Designer and Solidworks surfacer for the Mazda BT-50 OEM fascia solution. I was responsible for the assembly with multiple injection-moulded and sheet-metal parts.
There is estimated to be well over 30,000 units sold in Australia since the launch in 2017
I did not design the head unit supplied to Mazda (highlighted in this picture)
A year after the release of the 8-inch fascia, I was tasked to design a version to fit a mid-range 7-inch AV unit from Alpine. This was released for the low-mid spec BT-50’s on sale. As of this release, all BT-50’s up until mid-2020 will have the Alpine fascia assembly I designed.
The smartphone “loft” and its accessories are shared between both the 7 and the 8 inch models.
Mazda provided Alpine with the surfaces for the extremities and fitment.
